Strong Edge Stress in Molecularly Thin Organic-Inorganic Hybrid Ruddlesden-Popper Perovskites and Modulations of Their Edge Electronic Properties

Devesh R. Kripalani et al.

Summary: Organic-inorganic hybrid Ruddlesden-Popper perovskites (HRPPs) have attracted much attention for their high moisture resistance, good processability, and long functional lifetimes. The edge effects in ultrathin hybrid perovskites have been studied, and it is found that edge stresses and structural instabilities play crucial roles in determining their morphological and optoelectronic properties. The findings provide valuable insights for the rational design and development of high-performance layer-edge devices.

Atomically Resolved Quantum-Confined Electronic Structures at Organic-Inorganic Interfaces of Two-Dimensional Ruddlesden- Popper Halide Perovskites

Min-Chuan Shih et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the direct visualization of atomically resolved quantum-confined electronic structures at organic-inorganic interfaces of 2D RPPs using STM and STS techniques. The presence of quantum-well-like type-I heterojunction band alignment and edge states due to organic cation vacancies are observed at these interfaces. Real-space visualization of atomic-scale structural phase transition behavior and changes in local electronic band structures are obtained simultaneously.

Summary: The study reveals that the photoluminescence characteristics of 2D LHP single crystals vary between different facets, with free carriers (FCs) dominating in the in-plane facet and self-trapped excitons (STE) being easily trapped by intrinsic defects in the facet perpendicular to the 2D layers.

Summary: This study investigates the carrier dynamics of 2D Ruddlesden-Popper perovskites with different numbers of layers using transient spectroscopic techniques. The results show that perovskites with varying numbers of layers exhibit distinct exciton and free carrier behaviors, potentially due to the influence of edge states.

Layer Edge States Stabilized by Internal Electric Fields in Two-Dimensional Hybrid Perovskites

Jisook Hong et al.

Summary: Two-dimensional organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites have been intensively explored due to their tunable band gaps, exciton binding energies, and increased stability. Experimental observations suggest localized edge states in 2D hybrid perovskites, with multiple proposed origins. First-principles calculations show that layer edge states are stabilized by internal electric fields in 2D hybrid perovskites, facilitating their design for optoelectronic applications.

Summary: Two-dimensional metal-halide perovskites are promising for light harvesting and light emitting devices due to their improved stability compared to three-dimensional versions. Research has shown that interlayer exciton transport in 2D perovskites is efficient but slower than in-plane transport.
