(3ξ,4ξ,5ξ,6ξ,7ξ,11ξ)-3,6-Dihydroxy-8-oxo-9-eremophilene-12-oic Acid, a New Phytotoxin of Alternaria alternata ssp. tenuissima Isolates Associated with Fruit Spots on Apple (Malus x domestica Borkh.)

Sabine Oettl et al.

Summary: Infections of Alternaria sp. on apples lead to fruit quality decline and yield losses due to toxins produced by the Alternaria apple pathotype. Pathogenic isolates provoking necrotic lesions on apple leaves and fruits were identified and tested through in vitro assays. The lack of toxin-related genes in the isolates from the region suggests that Alternaria apple blotch in the area may be associated with a different metabolite.

Evidence of the Involvement of a Cyclase Gene in the Biosynthesis of Ochratoxin A in Aspergillus carbonarius

Massimo Ferrara et al.

Summary: Ochratoxin A (OTA) is a well-known mycotoxin found in food and feed, with fungal genome sequencing being useful for identifying secondary metabolites gene clusters. Comparative analysis reveals high synteny in the OTA-biosynthetic cluster among different fungi, with the identification of a cyclase gene, otaY, for the first time in the OTA biosynthetic pathway.

Colletotrichum species and complexes: geographic distribution, host range and conservation status

Pedro Talhinhas et al.

Summary: The taxonomy of the genus Colletotrichum has undergone significant changes in the past decade, with over 200 species currently recognized. Some of these species are important plant pathogens, while others are rarely found and may even be ecologically endangered. A review in this study lists 257 species grouped into 15 complexes, providing insight into their occurrence, geographical distribution, and host spectrum.

Alice Stiletto et al.

Summary: The study found that the taste, appearance, and storage methods of pomegranate products have a significant impact on consumer preferences, making them more willing to purchase and pay for them. In addition, consumers tend to purchase products they are familiar with, while those who are more focused on future health are more willing to purchase products that emphasize nutraceutical attributes on the label.
