Summary: Mutational activation of Ras promotes cell survival and proliferation, but the mechanisms through which it increases susceptibility to apoptosis are not fully understood. This study reveals that zinc ions suppress proapoptotic signaling in cells expressing mutant Ras. The activation of c-Jun N-terminal kinase and p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase, as well as the unfolded protein response, are involved in the induction of cell death. Additionally, zinc ions deficiency synergizes with mutant Ras to activate intracellular signaling pathways.
