Lipids and Trehalose Actively Cooperate in Heat Stress Management of Schizosaccharomyces pombe

Maria Peter et al.

Summary: This study investigates the role of trehalose as a membrane protectant in heat-stressed yeast mutants. The absence of trehalose leads to a more pronounced membrane lipid remodeling under heat stress conditions. The changes observed can partially substitute for trehalose and confer stress tolerance to yeast cells.

Beyond Proteostasis: Lipid Metabolism as a New Player in ER Homeostasis

Jiaming Xu et al.

Summary: Biological membranes serve as essential barriers separating cellular structures and play critical roles in signal initiation and membrane lipid composition regulation. The endoplasmic reticulum's membrane lipid composition is crucial for organelle function and stress response activation. Recent studies suggest that lipid perturbation can directly activate stress responses independently of protein folding.

Heat shock increases levels of reactive oxygen species, autophagy and apoptosis

Sarah Kassis et al.

Summary: Short-term heat shock at 42 degrees Celsius (<60 min) increased autophagy, while long-term heat shock (1-3 h) at 42 degrees Celsius led to apoptosis. Thermotolerant cells were resistant to apoptosis at 42 degrees Celsius. Autophagy inhibitors sensitized cells to apoptosis triggered by heat shock at 42 degrees Celsius.

Summary: The study found that a high-fat diet can cause severe metabolic disturbances in the liver and adipose tissues, while regular exercise can effectively reduce body weight, lower serum triglyceride levels, and decrease the expression of inflammatory factors.
