The effects of co-administration of probiotics and prebiotics on chronic inflammation, and depression symptoms in patients with coronary artery diseases: a randomized clinical trial

Jalal Moludi et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that co-supplementation of probiotics and inulin had beneficial effects on depression, anxiety, and inflammatory biomarkers in patients with coronary artery disease. This combination was more effective in improving psychological outcomes and inflammatory biomarkers compared to separate supplements.

Gut microbiota dysbiosis promotes age-related atrial fibrillation by lipopolysaccharide and glucose-induced activation of NLRP3-inflammasome

Yun Zhang et al.

Summary: By using a faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) rat model, it was demonstrated that the high AF susceptibility of aged rats could be transmitted to a young host. Inhibition of inflammasome by a potent and selective inhibitor of the NLRP3 inflammasome resulted in a lower atrial fibrosis and AF susceptibility. Clinical studies showed that serum LPS and glucose levels were progressively increased in elderly patients compared to young individuals, with similar results confirmed in clinical AF patients.

The effect of probiotics, prebiotics or synbiotics on metabolic outcomes in individuals with diabetes: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Patricia M. Bock et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of probiotic, prebiotic or synbiotic supplementation on gut microbiota and metabolic outcomes in individuals with diabetes. The results showed that these supplements can lead to improvements in fasting blood glucose, total cholesterol, triglycerides, insulinaemia and HDL-cholesterol levels. Further research is needed to fully understand the potential benefits of these supplements in diabetes management.

NLRP3 inflammasome is a key driver of obesity-induced atrial arrhythmias

Increased expression of acyl-CoA oxidase 2 in the kidney with plasma phytanic acid and altered gut microbiota in spontaneously hypertensive rats

Masahiro Okamura et al.

Summary: The study identified increased expression of Acox2 mRNA in the kidney as a pivotal molecule associated with the onset of hypertension. The overexpression of ACOX2 may be involved in the oxidation process in the kidney and the pathogenesis of hypertension. Differences in gut microbiota profiles, plasma phytanic acid levels, and ACOX2 expression were observed between hypertensive and normotensive rats.

A Six-Day, Lifestyle-Based Immersion Program Mitigates Cardiovascular Risk Factors and Induces Shifts in Gut Microbiota, Specifically Lachnospiraceae, Ruminococcaceae, Faecalibacterium prausnitzii: A Pilot Study

Summary: Research shows that a one-week lifestyle intervention can improve cardiovascular health, increase the abundance of butyrate producers, and enhance metabolic markers without significant weight loss. The changes in microbiota are significantly correlated with various cardiovascular risk factors and suggest a promising non-pharmacological approach for preventing cardiovascular disease. This brief intervention demonstrates potential for improving cardiovascular health through lifestyle modifications.

Summary: The study demonstrates that type 2 diabetes mice have an increased risk of arrhythmia, mainly due to the increased SR Ca2+ leak caused by cardiac IL-1β-mediated mitoROS generation. Inhibiting IL-1β and mitoROS can reduce the risk of arrhythmias. Reversing diabetic arrhythmia can be achieved by stabilizing the RyR2 channel.
