Crucial role of water content on the electrochemical performance ofα-Ni(OH)2as an anode material for lithium-ion batteries

Jinhuan Yao et al.

Summary: The study found that the adsorbed water in alpha-Ni(OH)2 has a decisive impact on the cycling stability and rate capability of the electrode. EIS and CV analyses showed that the adsorbed water molecules decrease the electrochemical reaction resistance, increase lithium ion diffusivity, and greatly enhance the pseudocapacitive charge storage behavior, leading to superior performance in cycle life and rate capability.

Engineering interfacial coupling between Mo2C nanosheets and Co@NC polyhedron for boosting electrocatalytic water splitting and zinc-air batteries

Tengteng Gu et al.

Summary: A novel noble-metal-free trifunctional heterostructure electrocatalyst Mo2C/Co@NC was successfully fabricated using a metal-organic framework (MOF)-based approach. The improved structural features and strong interfacial coupling effects between Mo2C nanosheets and Co@NC polyhedron significantly enhanced the intrinsic activities and accessible active sites, boosting the electrocatalytic performance for HER, OER and ORR. This study provides a new protocol for constructing high-performance electrocatalysts for water splitting and zinc-air batteries.

Is There Anything Better than Pt for HER?

Johannes Novak Hansen et al.

Summary: Efforts to find cheap alternatives to platinum for the hydrogen evolution reaction have not yet found a catalyst with intrinsic activity that can compete with platinum. It is important to measure intrinsic catalytic activities and consider the impact of mass-transport limitations on observed activity. Despite achieving the highest turnover frequency for platinum, the true intrinsic HER activity for platinum in acid remains unknown due to mass transport limitations.

Efficient Electrochemical Water Splitting with PdSn4 Dirac Nodal Arc Semimetal

Danil W. Boukhvalov et al.

Summary: Recent research has shown that topological materials like PdSn4, a Dirac semimetal, exhibit excellent catalytic activity and stability. Despite being prone to oxidation, PdSn4-based electrodes show similar performance to pure Pd in hydrogen evolution reactions, with potential cost savings in raw materials. Topological electronic states and atomic structure play key roles in the observed catalytic properties, with minimal contribution from the topological properties themselves as compared to previous reports.
