Premature aging disorders: A clinical and genetic compendium

Franziska Schnabel et al.

Summary: Progeroid disorders make up a group of rare hereditary diseases characterized by clinical signs that mimic physiological aging prematurely. Next-generation sequencing has made it possible to determine molecular diagnosis early in the disease, but a broad clinical knowledge on these disorders and their associated symptoms remains crucial.

Stress/Immune Biomarkers in Saliva among Children with ADHD Status

Anna Krahel et al.

Summary: The study found that children with ADHD displayed significant differences in body weight, BMI, and hip circumference compared to healthy controls, and showed elevated levels of sAA, sIgA, and IgM biomarkers in saliva. Consistent with previous studies, morning saliva collection and measurements of sAA and immunoglobulins can provide more accurate evaluation of the physiological status of ADHD children.

Salivary Gland Dysfunction in Patients with Chronic Heart Failure Is Aggravated by Nitrosative Stress, as Well as Oxidation and Glycation of Proteins

Anna Klimiuk et al.

Summary: Chronic heart failure is a significant issue, with oxidative stress playing a key role in its progression. This study compared antioxidant levels and oxidative stress markers in the saliva of HF patients, finding a decrease in antioxidants and an increase in glycoxidation products, indicating potential mechanisms for salivary gland dysfunction in these patients.

Salivary Biomarkers of Oxidative Stress and Inflammation in Stroke Patients: From Basic Research to Clinical Practice

Mateusz Maciejczyk et al.

Summary: Cerebral stroke is a global health issue. Diagnosis is currently based on neurological examination and medical history. Oxidative stress and inflammation play key roles in stroke pathogenesis, and saliva could be a new method for diagnosis and prognosis.

Influence of Dopamine on Fluorescent Advanced Glycation End Products Formation Using Drosophila melanogaster

Ana Filosevic Vujnovic et al.

Summary: The study found that dopamine inhibits the synthesis of fAGEs-BSA in vitro, suggesting an anti-oxidative effect, but this was not observed in flies fed with dopamine. Feeding flies cocaine and methamphetamine increased fAGEs formation, and mutants lacking dopamine transporter or D1-type showed further elevation in fAGEs accumulation.

Cytokine/Chemokine/Growth Factor Profiles Contribute to Understanding the Pathogenesis of the Salivary Gland Dysfunction in Euthyroid Hashimoto's Thyroiditis Patients

K. Morawska et al.

Summary: Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) is a common autoimmune disease that may not only affect thyroid gland function but also impair salivary gland secretion. Research shows that over half of HT patients may experience impaired salivary gland secretory function, and the clinical symptoms of salivary gland dysfunction worsen with disease duration. The inflammatory changes in salivary glands in HT patients are independent of general inflammation, and specific cytokines may serve as potential biomarkers for salivary gland dysfunction in HT.

Antioxidant Barrier and Oxidative Damage to Proteins, Lipid and DNA/RNA in Adrenal Tumor Patients

Barbara Choromanska et al.

Summary: This study assessed redox balance, glutathione metabolism, and oxidative damage in patients with adrenal masses, finding decreased antioxidant defense capacity and higher oxidative damage in these patients. Biomarkers in plasma like MDA and RNA/DNA oxidation products can help diagnose pheochromocytoma with high sensitivity and specificity, differentiating it from other adrenal masses and healthy controls. Oxidative stress may play a crucial role in adrenal tumors, but further research is needed to clarify the role of redox signaling in these masses.

Salivary cytokine profile in patients with ischemic stroke

Mateusz Maciejczyk et al.

Summary: Inflammatory cytokines play a crucial role in stroke pathogenesis. This study evaluated salivary cytokine profile in ischemic stroke patients for the first time and found higher levels of TNF-alpha and IL-6, and lower levels of IL-10 in their saliva. TNF-alpha in non-stimulated saliva may have greater diagnostic value for evaluating stroke patients.
