Borromean Supercounterfluidity

Emil Blomquist et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the existence of a new superfluid state in a three-component Bose mixture trapped in an optical lattice, where superfluid transport involving all three components is hindered and dissipationless counterflows between any pair of components are allowed. The presence of three components allows for three different types of counterflows with only two independent superfluid degrees of freedom.

Impurity dephasing in a Bose-Hubbard model

Fabio Caleffi et al.

Summary: In this study, the dynamics of a two-level impurity in a two-dimensional Bose-Hubbard model were investigated at zero temperature from the perspective of an open quantum system. Decoherence results across the whole phase diagram were presented, with a focus on the critical region near the transition between superfluid and Mott insulator. The deviation from a Markovian behavior and sensitivity to commensurate or incommensurate densities during the transition were highlighted, along with the role of the spectrum of the BH environment and its non-Gaussian statistics.

Microscopic evolution of doped Mott insulators from polaronic metal to Fermi liquid

Joannis Koepsell et al.

Summary: The research reveals the competition between antiferromagnetism and hole motion in two-dimensional Mott insulators, as well as the transition from an anomalous metal to a conventional Fermi liquid with varying doping levels. Using a cold-atom quantum simulator, the transformation of multipoint correlations between spins and holes is observed to change with increasing doping, with the crossover completed around 30% hole doping. This work provides insights into theoretical approaches and potential connections to lower-temperature phenomena.

Dissipationless Vector Drag-Superfluid Spin Hall Effect

Andrzej Syrwid et al.

Summary: The article demonstrates a new kind of dissipationless phenomenon in mixtures of interacting bosons in optical lattices, where one component's superflow results in dissipationless mass flow of the other component. In a particular class of optical lattices, the systems' free-energy density contains a vector productlike interaction of superfluid velocities, producing the dissipationless noncollinear entrainment.

Spin drag and fast response in a quantum mixture of atomic gases

Federico Carlini et al.

Summary: In this study, the effect of applying a sudden perturbation to one component of a mixture of two quantum fluids on the motion of the second component on a short timescale is explored using perturbation theory. It is shown that the response of the second component is governed by the energy weighted moment of the crossed dynamic structure factor for short times. The identification of peculiar fast spin drag regimes sensitive to interaction effects in the Hamiltonian is possible by properly monitoring the time duration of the perturbation.

Linear response study of collisionless spin drag

Donato Romito et al.

Summary: In this work, we investigate the collisionless drag or entrainment between two superfluids, referred to as the Andreev-Bashkin effect, in terms of current response functions. We demonstrate that the drag density is proportional to the cross transverse current-current response function, acting as a normal component for the single-species superfluid density. By studying the exhaustion of the energy-weighted sum rule in the spin channel, we are able to link the finite entrainment to this phenomenon.

Collisionless drag for a one-dimensional two-component Bose-Hubbard model

Daniele Contessi et al.

Summary: The study theoretically investigates the Andreev-Bashkin collisionless drag in a one-dimensional Bose-Hubbard model on a ring and calculates the superfluid stiffness matrix using tensor network algorithms. The focus is on the region close to the pair-superfluid phase where the drag can be significant. The importance of drag in determining long-range behavior of correlation functions and the spin speed of sound is highlighted, providing an expression for the spin Luttinger parameter K-S.
