Co and Ni assisted CdS@g-C3N4 nanohybrid: A photocatalytic system for efficient hydrogen evolution reaction

Jamal Abdul Nasir et al.

Summary: This study presents a novel and cost-effective photocatalytic system using CdS-NRs/g-C3N4 nanohybrid with Co and Ni as cocatalysts to accelerate solar-assisted water-splitting reaction efficiently. The dual cocatalysts selectively shuttle electrons and holes away from the semiconductor surface, leading to high H-2 production rate, turnover number, and external quantum yield. The synergistic effect between the cocatalysts and the heterojunction provides more active sites for water splitting, demonstrating the promising potential of using dual cocatalysts for improving photocatalytic water splitting systems.

Highly promoted hydrogen production enabled by interfacial P-N chemical bonds in copper phosphosulfide Z-scheme composite

Xiandi Zhang et al.

Summary: Studies on copper phosphosulfide coupled with graphene-like C3N4 as a photocatalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction showed that the interfacial P-N chemical bond constructing a Z-scheme heterostructure is crucial for the impressive photocatalytic activity. Time-resolved photoluminescence analysis revealed a significantly suppressed recombination rate of photoexcited charge carriers at the interface, facilitating electron transfer and enhancing the reducibility of electrons in the conduction band of copper phosphosulfide.

Rational designing 0D/1D Z-scheme heterojunction on CdS nanorods for efficient visible-light-driven photocatalytic H2 evolution

Bo Wang et al.

Summary: This study reports a novel 0D/1D direct Z-scheme heterojunction photocatalyst synthesized by anchoring W18O49 QDs onto CdS NRs, which efficiently separates photogenerated carriers and significantly improves photocatalytic H2 evolution performance. The optimal H2 production rate of the heterostructure is 55.24 mmol/h-1·g-1, outperforming pure CdS NRs and Pt/CdS by 110.5 and 3.7 times, respectively. The composite also demonstrates photocatalytic H2 evolution activity and generation of H2O2 even in the absence of hole scavengers, indicating a new protocol for efficient photocatalyst systems.

Surface Passivation Effect of Ferrihydrite with Hole-Storage Ability in Water Oxidation on BiVO4 Photoanode

Heng Yin et al.

Summary: This study investigated the role of Ferrihydrite (Fh) in water oxidation on Fh/BiVO4 photoanode using various time-resolved spectroscopic techniques. The results showed that Fh acts as a passivation layer with hole-storage ability, enhancing the performance of the photoanode by retarding electron/hole recombination in BiVO4. Additionally, the study demonstrated the transfer of holes from BiVO4 to Fh, where they accumulate with long lifetimes, providing direct dynamic evidence for the role of Fh in enhancing PEC performance.
