A high potential biphenol derivative cathode: toward a highly stable air-insensitive aqueous organic flow battery

Wanqiu Liu et al.

Summary: An air-insensitive biphenol derivative cathode, TABP, with high solubility and redox potential has been designed and synthesized by a scalable one-step method. Coupled with silicotungstic acid, an SWO/TABP flow battery exhibits stable performance under an air atmosphere, showing high rate performance and a very high volumetric capacity. This work presents a practical option for next-generation large-scale energy storage.

Designer Ferrocene Catholyte for Aqueous Organic Flow Batteries

Qianru Chen et al.

Summary: Research has shown that BQH-Fc, with the lowest LUMO density on iron, exhibits the highest stability and energy storage efficiency in aqueous organic flow batteries, reducing capacity fading. Through experiments and density functional theory calculations, a method has been successfully established to predict the water solubility of ferrocene molecules.

Reversible ketone hydrogenation and dehydrogenation for aqueous organic redox flow batteries

Ruozhu Feng et al.

Summary: The research shows that molecular engineering of fluorenone enables alcohol electro-oxidation without the use of a catalyst at room temperature, allowing for reversible ketone hydrogenation and dehydrogenation reactions. Flow batteries based on this technology operate efficiently in a non-demanding environment, exhibiting stable cycling performance at ambient and mildly increased temperatures. This expands the application range of organic active materials and suggests potential for identifying other promising organic redox couple candidates.
