Ultralow lattice thermal conductivity enables high thermoelectric performance in BaAg2Te2 alloys

Jing Tang et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the potential thermoelectric applications of BaAg2Te2, a compound with a Pnma crystal structure that exhibits a remarkably low lattice thermal conductivity. By alloying with Cu at the Ag site, the carrier concentration can be increased and the thermal conductivity can be reduced, leading to enhanced thermoelectric performance.

Enhanced Thermoelectric Properties of Cu x Se (1.75≤ x ≤2.10) during Phase Transitions

Zhongmou Yue et al.

Summary: The coupling of a phase transition to electron and phonon transports offers an additional degree of freedom to enhance thermoelectric performance. Experimental and theoretical studies on the impact of chemical compositions and phase transition characters on abnormal thermoelectric properties across phase transitions are rare. By varying the Cu content in Cu x Se, it was found that adding excess Cu could alter the phase transition characters and suppress the formation of Cu vacancies, leading to improved thermoelectric properties. Additionally, critical scatterings of phonons and electrons during phase transitions strongly enhance the Seebeck coefficient and reduce the thermal conductivity, resulting in a high thermoelectric figure of merit.

A Novel Analytical Model for Ohmic Contacts to Planar Devices: Theoretical Design and Experimental Verification

Zhonghao Sun et al.

Summary: This study introduces an improved analytical model with an electrode-pair (EP) layout design to accurately extract the electrical parameters of planar Ohmic contact. The model utilizes a series of EPs with fixed interval distance but varied electrode widths to assist engineers in chip layout design, with its effectiveness validated through experiments and simulations. The proposed model offers a unique perspective to understand and quantify the electrical characteristics of a wider range of Ohmic contacts.

Simultaneously optimized thermoelectric performance of n-type Cu2Se alloyed Bi2Te3

Jie Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, the phonon and carrier transport properties of n-type Bi2Te3-based composites were simultaneously optimized through alloying Cu2Se, resulting in enhanced thermoelectric performance. The chemical reactions between Bi2Te3 matrix and Cu2Se additives during sample preparation tuned the carrier concentration and density-of-states effective mass to optimize carrier transport properties, while introducing hierarchical structures reduced lattice thermal conductivity.

Thermoelectric Properties of Cu2Se Nano-Thin Film by Magnetron Sputtering

Liangliang Yang et al.

Summary: Thermoelectric technology offers advantages such as quiet operation, zero emissions, and long life, but its large-scale application is limited by the lower thermoelectric performance factor (ZT). By growing Cu2Se thin films using magnetron sputtering, researchers achieved high conductivity and ZT values. This work lays the foundation for further research on nano-thin-film thermoelectrics.
