The molecular prevalence, distribution and risk factors associated with Babesia bigemina infection in Peninsular Malaysia

Shola David Ola-Fadunsin et al.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence, distribution, and risk factors associated with B. bigemina infection in cattle in Peninsular Malaysia using molecular diagnostic methods. The research revealed that breed, age, physiological status, management type, rate of de-ticking, and closeness to human settlement were significant risk factors for the prevalence of B. bigemina in cattle. Additionally, the study identified Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus and Haemaphysalis bispinosa as the predominant tick species infesting cattle in the region.
