Tranexamic acid usage in hip fracture surgery: a meta-analysis and meta-regression analysis of current practice

Wenhua Liu et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis indicated that the use of TXA in hip fracture surgery can significantly reduce the need for blood transfusion and blood loss without increasing the risk of thromboembolic events. Topical application of TXA had a lower transfusion rate compared to controls, but the difference was not statistically significant. TXA showed similar efficacy and safety profiles across different dosage and frequency levels.

Tranexamic acid and obstetric hemorrhage: give empirically or selectively?

A. Shander et al.

Summary: TXA is a antifibrinolytic agent that has been used to reduce blood loss, particularly in managing postpartum hemorrhage after vaginal and cesarean deliveries. Current evidence suggests that TXA reduces mortality due to bleeding in developing countries, but the benefit-risk ratio in developed countries still needs further evaluation. The level of evidence is currently insufficient to recommend routine use of TXA for preventing blood loss after deliveries.

Efficacy and Safety of Tranexamic Acid in Emergency Trauma: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Mahdi Al-Jeabory et al.

Summary: TXA used in civilian application reduces in-hospital mortality and is beneficial for severely injured patients who require massive blood transfusions. However, patients undergoing TXA treatment should be monitored for clinical signs of thromboembolism, as TXA is a standalone risk factor for such events.

Association of Intravenous Tranexamic Acid With Thromboembolic Events and Mortality A Systematic Review, Meta-analysis, and Meta-regression

Isabel Taeuber et al.

Summary: The systematic review and meta-analysis of 216 studies indicated that intravenous TXA, regardless of dosage, does not increase the risk of any thromboembolic events. These findings clarify the incidence of adverse events associated with intravenous TXA administration and suggest its safety for patients, particularly those receiving neurological care.

Tranexamic acid in non-traumatic intracranial bleeding: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Jean-Baptiste Bouillon-Minois et al.

Summary: A systematic review and meta-analysis found that tranexamic acid (TXA) may reduce mortality by approximately 22% in patients with non-traumatic intracranial bleeding. Meta-regression analysis showed that the severity of NTIB, age, sex, length of treatment, or publication date did not influence the effectiveness of TXA. Sensitivity analyses confirmed the benefits of TXA on mortality in NTIB patients.

Shangyi Hui et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis aimed to investigate the effectiveness of tTXA in reducing postoperative drainage, hidden blood loss, and hospital stay duration in spine surgeries. The results showed significantly reduced postoperative drainage output and duration, perioperative hidden blood loss, and length of hospital stay in the tTXA group.

Summary: This study found that tranexamic acid (TXA) effectively reduces blood loss in shoulder surgery based on a systematic review and meta-analysis. Larger randomized controlled trials with low risk of bias for specific surgical shoulder procedures are needed.
