Dynamic balancing of mechanisms with flexible links

J. P. Meijaard et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the dynamic balancing of flexible mechanisms, exploring two approaches: similarity and modal balancing. It demonstrates that a single rotating link can be balanced by a properly scaled countermass, although perfect balance cannot be achieved in a translator system. Modal balancing is shown to be effective in balancing a four-bar mechanism with a flexible coupler, suppressing specific vibration modes by supporting the coupler at specific nodes.

A New Algorithm for Multivariate Genome Wide Association Studies Based on Differential Evolution and Extreme Learning Machines

David Alvarez Gutierrez et al.

Summary: Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) aim to identify genetic variants linked to certain traits or diseases. Machine learning methodologies have shown good performance in these studies. This work introduces a new GWAS methodology using extreme learning machines and differential evolution. The proposed method was tested on individuals with colorectal cancer and successfully detected relevant pathways with lower computational cost than previously proposed machine learning methods.
