Out-of-plane bending fire response of steel tubular T-joints: A sequentially coupled thermal-stress modelling

F. Ahmadpour et al.

Summary: This paper deals with the numerical simulation of out-of-plane bending (OPB) of steel tubular T-joints in a standard fire. The data from fire tests conducted by the authors on small-scale steel tubular T-joints are used for validation. A parametric study is conducted on full-scale steel tubular T-joints, and the results show that the chord diameter to thickness ratio, brace/chord diameters ratio, load ratio, steel grade, and the chord axial fixity are the most influential parameters affecting the OPB fire response of the steel tubular T-joints.

Finite element modeling of local corrosion accelerated by the mechano-electrochemical coupling effect at defects on pipelines under combined effects of internal pressure and axial applied stress

Zhuwu Zhang et al.

Summary: The study highlights the importance of considering the combined effects of internal pressure and axial applied stress on the localized corrosion rate of pipelines with defects. Depending on the angle of the defect, the maximum stress and electrochemical corrosion can be significantly or slightly affected by the applied stress.

First results of a methodology to obtain a 1D variable geometry model for the structural analysis of corroded steel beams from the point cloud

Erik Rua et al.

Summary: This study aims to efficiently model corroded steel profiles using point cloud technology for subsequent finite element numerical analysis. Compared to current 3D solid modeling techniques, this method can significantly reduce model size and computing time. The efficiency of the proposed methodology has been validated in two different laboratory case studies.

Mechanical behavior of locally corroded circular steel tube under compression

Yuan Wei et al.

Summary: Localized corrosion can significantly reduce the load carrying capacity and safety performance of steel structures. A calculation method was proposed based on experimental and numerical studies to predict the load carrying capacity of locally corroded circular steel tubes under compression. Factors affecting the degradation of load carrying capacity and stiffness of localized corrosion specimens were identified.

A random field model of external metal-loss corrosion on buried pipelines

J. Bao et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a random field model to characterize the corrosion depth on the external surface of buried steel oil and gas pipelines, and the results indicate that the proposed model is able to accurately capture the characteristics of naturally-occurring corrosion field on the pipe surface.
