Surface modification of nettle fibers by grafting to improve oil sorption capacity

Summary: This study investigated the enhancement of oil sorption capacity of nettle fibers by grafting of butyl acrylate. The results showed that the functionalized nettle prepared by grafting technique exhibited higher oil sorption capacity than commercial polypropylene material, making it a potential material for oil spill treatment.

Current Status of Cellulosic and Nanocellulosic Materials for Oil Spill Cleanup

Summary: This review article discusses recent developments in the application of lignocellulosic materials for oil spill removal, presenting different types of substrates and their modification strategies. The correlation between material properties and absorption performance, particularly for 3D-materials, is highlighted. It is suggested that both nanocellulosic precursors and bulk cellulose materials can be used for cost- and energy-efficient production of lignocellulosic oil spillage removal materials.
