Improvement in the anti-corrosion property of marine concrete using layered double hydroxides and polyvinylpyrrolidone

Lei Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, Fe-based layered double hydroxides (LDHs) and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) were added to mortar to enhance its anti-corrosion property. The LDHs-PVP composites exhibited higher resistance, lower corrosion current density, and slower corrosion rate compared to other samples due to the synergistic effect of PVP and LDHs. The addition of LDHs and PVP effectively decelerated the corrosion reaction of steel and reduced the penetration of chloride ions. These composites have great potential as effective inhibitors for marine concrete corrosion.

Novel Ca-SLS-LDH nanocomposites obtained via lignosulfonate modification for corrosion protection of steel bars in simulated concrete pore solution

Mengzhu Chen et al.

Summary: The novel nanocomposite Ca-SLS-LDH, modified with SLS on Ca-LDH, has a larger specific surface area and smaller average particle size compared to Ca-LDH, enabling it to more effectively bind chlorides for use in reinforced concrete. Mechanistically, Ca-SLS-LDH binds to chlorides through ion exchange and surface adsorption, similar to Ca-LDH, and shows a stronger inhibitory effect on carbon steel corrosion in simulated concrete pore solution.

Halloysite nanotubes-based nanocomposites for the hydrophobization of hydraulic mortar

Maria Rita Caruso et al.

Summary: The study aims to design a protective layer for stone surfaces using a modified cellulose biofilm filled with halloysite nanotubes as wax compatibilizers. Wax microparticles were incorporated to improve the physicochemical properties of the covering layer, and different application protocols such as brushing and spraying were studied to assess scalability. Colorimetric analysis and water adhesion tests were conducted to evaluate color alteration and spreading behavior after treatment.
