Improving the wear resistance of plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) coatings applied on Mg and its alloys under the addition of nano- and micro-sized additives into the electrolytes: A review

Maryam Molaei et al.

Summary: PEO technique is an efficient surface modification approach for enhancing wear protection in magnesium and its alloys by applying hard and thick ceramic coatings. By adding additives, such as particles or powders, more efficient protection against wear can be achieved, reducing porosity and increasing thickness and hardness of the coatings.

Corrosion resistance of WE43 Mg alloy in sodium chloride solution

Gualter Silva Pereira et al.

Summary: The study showed that the WE43 Mg alloy exhibited better corrosion resistance in a sodium chloride solution compared to commercially pure Mg, with a corrosion rate 10 to 100 times lower. This was mainly attributed to the nature of the corrosion product layer and its impact on the cathodic reaction of hydrogen gas evolution.

Aqueous molybdate provides effective corrosion inhibition of WE43 magnesium alloy in sodium chloride solutions

Dmitry S. Kharitonov et al.

Summary: The study showed that the Na2MoO4 inhibitor can provide reliable corrosion inhibition for WE43 magnesium alloy at concentrations of 100 mM and above, with the formed surface layer consisting of mixed Mo(V, IV) species that exhibit an inhibition efficiency of 91-99% after 24 hours of exposure. A two-step oxidation-reduction mechanism of corrosion inhibition of the WE43 alloy by aqueous molybdates was proposed.

Influence of CaO on the structure of zinc sodium tetra borate glasses containing Cu2+ ions

G. Sangeetha et al.

Summary: A study on sodium tetra borate glasses doped with Cu2+ ions showed a decrease in density values with composition, revealing conversion of BO4 to BO3 units. EPR spectra analysis confirmed tetragonally distorted Cu2+ ions in octahedral sites, and N4 values from FTIR spectra supported the conversion of BO4 to BO3 units.

Enhancing corrosion and wear performance of PEO coatings on Mg alloys using graphene and graphene oxide additions: A review

Arash Fattah-alhosseini et al.

Summary: Magnesium and its alloys have excellent properties but are prone to corrosion. Applying coatings for protection, especially PEO coatings, can enhance their corrosion resistance. Adding graphene has positive effects on the corrosion and wear behaviors of PEO coatings.
