Study on corrosion behavior and mechanism of AISI 4135 steel in marine environments based on field exposure experiment

Yong Xu et al.

Summary: This study investigates and compares the corrosion behavior of high-strength steels in different marine corrosion zones. The results show that the rust layer formed on the steel surface has component delamination, and the steel samples in different corrosion zones exhibit different corrosion forms and electrochemical behavior.

Effect of chloride ion on corrosion resistance of Ni-advanced weathering steel in simulated tropical marine atmosphere

Yueming Fan et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effect of chloride ion on the corrosion resistance of Ni-advanced weathering steel in simulated tropical marine atmosphere. The results showed that the concentration of chloride ion had a primary impact on the corrosion resistance of the steel, affecting the formation of NiFe2O4 and the composition of the product film. Increasing chloride ion concentration led to reduced corrosion resistance and changes in the composition and distribution of nickel in the film.

A study on corrosion of X80 steel in a simulated tidal zone

Xiaobao Zhou et al.

Summary: This paper developed an experimental technique simulating tidal rhythm for studying the tidal zone corrosion of metals, and studied the corrosion of X80 pipeline steel using various methods. The results showed that the corrosion rate and current density increased with the steel's altitude in the tidal zone, and no obvious pit was observed on the steel surface after 60 tidal cycles in seawater.

Fundamental understanding on the effect of Cr on corrosion resistance of weathering steel in simulated tropical marine atmosphere

Meihui Sun et al.

Summary: The addition of Cr in weathering steel greatly improves the corrosion resistance by promoting the transformation of rust layer and refining rust grains. Cr-formed products increase nucleation position and diffusion resistance, leading to a slower corrosion rate of the metal.

Insight into atmospheric corrosion evolution of mild steel in a simulated coastal atmosphere

Yue Wang et al.

Summary: The corrosion behavior of mild steel in a simulated coastal atmosphere environment was studied through experiments, showing a trend of rapid increase followed by gradual stabilization during the corrosion process. Different chemical compositions and conductivity were observed in the inner and outer layers of the rust as it thickened. The thickening rust layer inhibited the diffusion of aggressive ions, gradually suppressing the electrochemical corrosion process.
