Power transport efficiency during O-X-B 2nd harmonic electron cyclotron heating in a helicon linear plasma device

J. F. Caneses Marin et al.

Summary: The power coupled to a tungsten target during oblique injection of a microwave beam into a high-power deuterium helicon plasma column is effectively controlled by adjusting the magnetic field profile. High heat fluxes and power transport efficiencies are achieved using this method. Most of the heat flux is confined to a narrow region at the plasma periphery. The microwave power is absorbed via an O-X-B mode conversion process and collisions in the plasma.

RF sheath induced sputtering on Proto-MPEX part 2: Impurity transport modeling and experimental comparison

C. J. Beers et al.

Summary: The Proto-MPEX experiment uses a pulsed linear plasma device with a helicon antenna and ceramic window as the ionization source. Modeling predicts hot spots and physical sputtering of the ceramic window in the device. Investigation into the role of oxygen in sputtering and impurity flux shows agreement between experiments and models. Temperature screening of impurities is necessary to reduce impurity flux to the target. The modeling approach can be applied to other plasma RF applications for impurity production and transport.

RF sheath induced sputtering on Proto-MPEX. I. Sheath equivalent dielectric layer for modeling the RF sheath

C. J. Beers et al.

Summary: The text discusses the use of an RF helicon antenna with an aluminum nitride ceramic window in the pulsed linear plasma device Proto-MPEX, and how the RF sheath created under the antenna affects impurity production rates. By coupling different models to study impurity production and transportation, the novel method can model impurity generation and transport across different length scales, providing insights for various plasma physics studies.
