Comprehensive Genetic Analysis of DGAT2 Mutations and Gene Expression Patterns in Human Cancers

Meghan Graber et al.

Summary: Cellular metabolism, especially lipid metabolism, is often altered in cancer cells to meet their high energy demands. Mutations in genes like DGAT2, essential for lipid metabolism, are commonly observed in cancer cells. This study identified a hotspot mutation in the DGAT2 gene that may affect enzyme activity in cancer cells, and distinguished cancer-related mutations from a conserved mutation linked to a different disease.

Quantity versus quality: Age-related differences in muscle volume, intramuscular fat, and mechanical properties in the triceps surae

Sabrina Pinel et al.

Summary: This study compared differences in muscle volume, structure, intramuscular fat levels, and shear modulus in the triceps surae of younger and older adults. Older adults had higher intramuscular fat levels yet similar muscle volumes, and this increase in fat content was associated with lower muscle shear modulus. Additionally, the study found that considering intramuscular fat content when assessing physiological cross-sectional area showed a modest increase in its association with ankle strength, highlighting the role of skeletal muscle fat infiltration in age-related strength deficits.

Evaluation of vitamin A status on myogenic gene expression and muscle fiber characteristics

Kimberly B. Wellmann et al.

Summary: The experiment examined changes in myogenic gene expression and muscle fiber characteristics with different dietary vitamin A supplementation levels, and the results suggest that these changes are independent of the vitamin A status in yearling cattle.

Cinnamaldehyde Promotes the Intestinal Barrier Functions and Reshapes Gut Microbiome in Early Weaned Rats

Lili Qi et al.

Summary: Cinnamaldehyde promotes mucin production, enhances tight junction proteins and intestinal barrier integrity, and reduces inflammatory responses in early weaned rats. Additionally, it remodels the gut microbiome structure by increasing beneficial genera and decreasing harmful bacteria.

Partial least squares and machine learning for the prediction of intramuscular fat content of lamb loin

Stephanie M. Fowler et al.

Summary: The study aimed to predict intramuscular fat (IMF) using Near Infrared (NIR) spectroscopy with Partial Least Squares (PLS) and machine learning analysis methods. The outcomes of IMF prediction models were similar between the two analysis methods. Additionally, discrepancies in spectra and wavelengths selected across different slaughter events were highlighted in the study.

CD36 and DGAT2 facilitate the lipid-lowering effect of chitooligosaccharides via fatty acid intake and triglyceride synthesis signaling

Xin Shen et al.

Summary: The study revealed that chitobiose (GlcN)2 and chitotriose (GlcN)3 have inhibitory effects on lipid accumulation under a non-high-fat diet, by reducing the expression of TG synthesis and fatty acid uptake-related signaling pathways. Additionally, overexpression of CD36 and DGAT2 genes showed promising therapeutic potential in regulating hepatic steatosis.
