DETECTION OF HERPESVIRUSES IN PASSERINE BIRDS CAPTURED DURING AUTUMN MIGRATION IN SLOVENIA

Zoran Zlabravec et al.

Summary: Herpesviruses were detected in cloacal swabs of clinically healthy passerine birds from Slovenia during autumn migrations, with a distant relationship to other bird alphaherpesviruses. Phylogenetic analysis showed clustering with HVs from species like Sulphur-crested Cockatoo and Neotropic Cormorants, as well as known HVs such as gallid HV1, psittacid HV1 and HV2, and passerine HV1. Different HV sequences with low identity were found, indicating the circulation of various HVs in passerines during autumn migration in Slovenia.

Herpesvirus Infection in a Breeding Population of Two Coexisting Strix Owls

Zoran Zlabravec et al.

Summary: The study found herpesvirus in a wild breeding population of Ural owls without negative effects on their health and breeding performance. Herpesvirus was also detected in yellow-necked mice, but phylogenetic analysis showed different sources of herpesvirus in owls and mice.
