A Review of Recent Spatial Accessibility Studies That Benefitted from Advanced Geospatial Information: Multimodal Transportation and Spatiotemporal Disaggregation

Jinwoo Park et al.

Summary: Spatial accessibility is crucial for understanding spatial disparity and guiding decision-making in infrastructure placement. Research has traditionally focused on empirical findings, distance decay functions, and threshold travel times, but there is a need to further explore the benefits of dynamic variables in accessibility studies. Methodological advancements and recent trends in multimodal accessibility and temporal changes in accessibility present opportunities for improved accuracy in measurements and policy implications. Geographers are called upon to actively engage with these dynamic variables and strengthen the link between accessibility research and policymaking.

Community Veterinary Medicine Programs: Pet Owners' Perceptions and Experiences

Lori R. Kogan et al.

Summary: Many American pet owners face financial struggles, but the positive impact of companion animals in people's lives calls for supportive systems to ensure that financial constraints do not prevent pet ownership. Community-based veterinary programs have been developed across the country to address these barriers. Two programs in North Carolina were assessed, focusing on veterinary services, communication, and respect. Results of surveys conducted at these programs showed positive experiences among clients, pointing towards the potential for successful community veterinary programs with effective communication and empathy towards disadvantaged pet owners.
