Impact of an active surveillance program and infection control measures on the incidence of carbapenem-resistant gram-negative bacilli in an intensive care unit

Juan Martin Vargas et al.

Summary: This study assessed the impact of enhanced infection control measures on CRGNB colonization and described the molecular epidemiology of these bacteria in an ICU. The implementation of infection control measures led to a reduction in CRGNB colonization, and K. pneumoniae was most frequently associated with KPC-2 carbapenemase, while A. baumannii was predominantly associated with IMP-1 carbapenemase.

Multiple antimicrobial resistance and outcomes among hospitalized patients with complicated urinary tract infections in the US, 2013-2018: a retrospective cohort study

Marya D. Zilberberg et al.

Summary: The study reveals that triple resistance (TR) occurs in 1 in 8 patients hospitalized with complicated urinary tract infection (cUTI), leading to an increased risk of inappropriate empiric treatment (IET) exposure and a modest prolongation of hospital length of stay and increase in total costs, particularly in non-catheter-associated UTI (CAUTI) setting.

Global Trends in Research of Macrophages Associated With Acute Lung Injury Over Past 10 Years: A Bibliometric Analysis

Sheng Wang et al.

Summary: Over the past 10 years, research on macrophages in acute lung injury (ALI) has shown a continuous increase, with China being a major producer of studies and the USA exerting significant influence in the field. Studies have mainly focused on basic research, with recent attention shifting towards pathways associated with the regulatory role of macrophages in inhibiting and attenuating ALI.

Robin Bruyndonckx et al.

Summary: This article reviewed two decades of antibiotic consumption in the community across 30 EU/EEA countries, finding variations in different countries and antibiotic groups/subgroups. Recommendations include careful interpretation of country-specific results and conducting their own change-point analysis to improve antibiotic consumption in the community.

Effects of Regulation on Carbapenem Prescription in a Large Teaching Hospital in China: An Interrupted Time Series Analysis, 2016-2018

Lewei Xie et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the effects of a regulation targeting carbapenem prescription implemented in China in 2017. The results showed that the regulation effectively reduced the intensity and consumption of carbapenems, as well as the average length of stay, particularly in the intensive care unit. This indicates the urgent need for stronger regulations focusing on critical departments in the future.

Reduction in antimicrobial use associated with a multifaceted antimicrobial stewardship programme in a tertiary teaching hospital in Shanghai: a segmented regression analysis

Yang-Xi Liu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that the MAMS programme significantly reduced antibiotic consumption and percentage of antibiotic prescriptions in a tertiary teaching hospital in Shanghai. The intervention, consisting of a quality premium and multidisciplinary cooperation, proved to be effective regardless of external factors like the COVID-19 pandemic.
