Evaluation of Qusaiba Kaolinitic Shale as a Supplementary Cementitious Material in Lightweight Oil-Well Cement Formulation

Stephen Adjei et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the feasibility of using kaolinitic shale from the Qusaiba Member in Saudi Arabia as a source of metakaolin. The analysis shows that the shale is of high grade and less ordered, making it an excellent source of highly reactive metakaolin. The metakaolin produced exhibits mechanical properties suitable for downhole oil-wellbore applications.

Impact of Drilling Fluid Contamination on Performance of Rock-Based Geopolymers

E. Eid et al.

Summary: The study presented the impact of different concentrations of drilling fluid contamination on rock-based geopolymers, showing that geopolymers are more sensitive to water-based drilling fluids. Although the geopolymer samples showed strength retrogression at early stages, the strength of the samples improved with time.

The Effect of Various Si/Al, Na/Al Molar Ratios and Free Water on Micromorphology and Macro-Strength of Metakaolin-Based Geopolymer

Hongguang Wang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effect of Na/Al ratios on the mechanical properties of geopolymer materials. Results indicated that the Si/Al and Na/Al molar ratios significantly influenced the microstructure and mechanical behavior of the materials, and suggested optimal Si/Al and Na/Al ratios for maximum strength. The macro-strength of geopolymers primarily depends on the formation of NASH gel, with an appropriate Na/Al ratio contributing to geopolymerization.

Valorization of Geothermal Silica and Natural Bentonite through Geopolymerization: A Characterization Study and Response Surface Design

Himawan Tri Bayu Murti Petrus et al.

Summary: Geothermal silica is a potential source of amorphous silica for producing geopolymer concrete, and its valorization as geopolymer concrete can add value to the geothermal-based power industry. The study investigated and optimized the effects of silica content, NaOH molarity, and curing temperature on compressive strength using response surface methodology. The geopolymer samples characterized using FTIR and SEM-EDS showed that the aluminosilicate structure was formed in all samples, and the optimum formulation for compressive strength was found at a silica content of 130 g, NaOH molarity of 10 M, and curing temperature of 80 degrees C.
