Effective removal of metal ions and cationic dyes from aqueous solution using different hydrazine-dopamine modified sodium alginate

Tianzhu Shi et al.

Summary: DSA-AAD-DA and DSA-TPDH-DA were successfully prepared for efficient removal of metal ions and cationic dyes from aqueous solution. Both materials showed excellent adsorption performance, with DSA-TPDH-DA displaying higher removal efficiency compared to DSA-AAD-DA. Furthermore, the adsorption capacity of both materials remained above 80% even after five cycles of adsorption-desorption, highlighting their potential for wastewater treatment.

Mesoporous composite Ni-C-N/SA for selective adsorption of methylene blue from water

Chengyi Dai et al.

Summary: The mesoporous Ni-C-N/Silica aerogel (Ni-C-N/SA) was prepared by impregnating the [Ni(tepa)](2+) complex onto a negatively charged silica aerogel support and subjecting it to suitable thermal treatment. The Ni-C-N/SA exhibited selective adsorption for methylene blue (MB) and showed increased adsorption capacity compared to raw silica aerogel (RSA). This was attributed to the binder effect of [Ni(tepa)](2+), leading to changes in pore volume, pore size distribution, and interaction between cationic dye and Ni-C-N components.

Preparation and characterization of ternary Cu/Cu2O/C composite: An extraordinary adsorbent for removing anionic organic dyes from water

Junhua Li et al.

Summary: This study successfully synthesized a Cu/Cu2O/C composite with ultra-high anionic dyes adsorption capacity, which can be easily recovered and showed spontaneous and exothermic adsorption process. The synergistic effect of physical and chemical interactions, as well as chemisorption as the main rate-limiting step were identified, with excellent adsorption ability mainly attributed to the interaction between sulfonic group and Cu. This work may contribute to the development of high adsorption capacity materials for toxic organic pollutants removal and selective anion separation.

Tetracycline removal from aqueous solution using zirconium-based metal-organic frameworks (Zr-MOFs) with different pore size and topology: Adsorption isotherm, kinetic and mechanism studies

Jing Xia et al.

Summary: Three zirconium-based metal-organic frameworks, UiO-66, NU-1000, and MOF-525, demonstrated excellent adsorption performance for tetracycline removal. The adsorption kinetics were best described by the pseudo-second-order model, with equilibrium rapidly reached within 40 minutes on UiO-66 and NU-1000, and within 120 minutes on MOF-525. The Sips model provided the best fit for the adsorption isotherms, with high maximum Sips adsorption capacities reported for all three MOFs. The pi-pi interaction was found to play a crucial role in the adsorption process.

Fabrication of starch-based high-performance adsorptive hydrogels using a novel effective pretreatment and adsorption for cationic methylene blue dye: Behavior and mechanism

Liwei Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel pretreatment method using NaOH solution was employed to treat starch, resulting in the successful preparation of a high-performance adsorptive hydrogel STAH. The STAH showed excellent adsorption capacity for organic cationic dye contaminants and high reusability. The pretreatment destroyed the semi-crystalline structure of starch, exposing more hydroxyl groups and enhancing the interaction between STAH and dyes.

Phosphotungstic acid-modified zeolite imidazolate framework (ZIF-67) as an acid-base bifunctional heterogeneous catalyst for biodiesel production from microalgal lipids

Jun Cheng et al.

Summary: A novel bifunctional heterogeneous catalyst was synthesized by modifying ZIF-67 with phosphotungstic acid to provide more acid-base active sites for catalyzing esterification and transesterification for biodiesel production. The modified catalyst exhibited enhanced Lewis acid-base properties and improved recyclability, leading to a higher conversion efficiency of microalgal lipids to fatty acid methyl ester.
