Integrated Strategies for Durable Rice Blast Resistance in Sub-Saharan Africa

Samuel K. Mutiga et al.

Summary: Rice is a key food security crop in Africa, and efforts are being made at country-specific, regional, and multinational levels to develop germplasm and policies to boost production. Rice blast disease remains a major constraint to rice production in sub-Saharan Africa, and multinational collaborative research efforts are essential in enhancing sustainable rice production and advancing regional policies. Through international partnerships, progress has been made in establishing networks for disease surveillance, engaging with farmers, monitoring pathogen virulence, and developing blast-resistant rice varieties.

Characterization of Endophytic Fungi, Acremonium sp., from Lilium davidii and Analysis of Its Antifungal and Plant Growth-Promoting Effects

Mohammad Sayyar Khan et al.

Summary: The study isolated the endophytic fungi Acremonium sp. Ld-03 from Lilium davidii and demonstrated its antifungal and plant growth-promoting effects, including production of various secondary metabolites and promotion of in vitro seedling growth. The results suggest that Ld-03 has potential as a biocontrol agent and plant growth stimulator, warranting further investigation.

Importance of Molecular Data to Identify Fungal Plant Pathogens and Guidelines for Pathogenicity Testing Based on Koch's Postulates

Chitrabhanu S. Bhunjun et al.

Summary: Fungi are essential components of ecosystems, but they can also cause plant diseases. Accurate identification of fungal pathogens is crucial, with morphology-based identification and molecular data playing key roles. A polyphasic approach is recommended for identifying fungal pathogens in the modern era.

Inoculation and colonization of isolated entomopathogenic fungi Beauveria bassiana in rice plants, Oryza sativa L. through seed immersion method

Etr H. K. Khashaba

Summary: This study isolated and identified the native entomopathogenic fungus, Beauveria bassiana, from Egyptian soil and successfully introduced it as an endophyte in rice plants through seeds immersion. The results indicated that seeds immersion with a conidial suspension is an effective method to protect rice plants against stem borers.
