Cosmos sulphureus Cav. is more tolerant to lead than copper and chromium in hydroponics system

N. Aftab et al.

Summary: Heavy metals such as lead, copper, and chromium can have detrimental effects on plant growth and development. The ornamental plant Cosmos sulphureus Cav. showed varying levels of growth reduction in response to different concentrations of these metals in a hydroponics system. Lead was mainly accumulated in the roots of the plant, while copper and chromium were also mainly found in the roots at certain concentrations in the external solution. Further research is needed to understand the mechanisms behind lead homeostasis in roots and the potential of Cosmos sulphureus Cav. as a lead hyperaccumulator.

Integrative Effects of Treated Wastewater and Synthetic Fertilizers on Productivity, Energy Characteristics, and Elements Uptake of Potential Energy Crops in an Arid Agro-Ecosystem

Nasser Al-Suhaibani et al.

Summary: The study found that using treated municipal wastewater (TWW) for irrigation can improve plant growth, nutrient uptake, and overall crop production of bioenergy crops, sometimes comparable to full recommended doses of fertilizers. Additionally, TWW usage can decrease the rate of synthetic fertilizer application and enhance soil nutrient levels.

Evaluation of the Performance and Quality of Wastewater Treated by M'zar Plant in Agadir, Morocco

Imane Mansir et al.

Summary: The study showed that the effluents treated by the M'zar plant met Moroccan standards in terms of physico-chemical and bacteriological parameters, with high removal rates, except for the high electrical conductivity influenced by salt discharge from the fish industry. The treated wastewater is rich in nitrates, which can lead to significant savings in fertilization in agriculture.

Treated Wastewater Irrigation-A Review

Mahmoud S. Hashem et al.

Summary: Water is a crucial resource that is continuously decreasing worldwide, leading to an increased focus on alternative water sources like Treated Wastewater (TW). However, using TW for irrigation poses potential risks such as health hazards, salinity build-up, and toxicity hazards. Proper guidelines for wastewater reuse and management are essential to mitigate these unfavorable effects.
