Redescription of the Sanqiaspidae (Galeaspida) from the Lower Devonian of South China and its biostratigraphic significance

Summary: Galeaspida is a unique clade of jawless stem-gnathostomes found exclusively in the Silurian and Devonian of China and Vietnam. The Sanqiaspidae family within Galeaspida is of particular interest for its contribution to knowledge of galeaspid morphology. New findings of Sanqiaspis fossils in different sites in South China provide further insights into the characteristics of this species and its stratigraphic correlation with other regions. The endemism of fish assemblages from the Pragian of the South China Block suggests a diversification of galeaspids in a semi-closed epicontinental environment during the Early Devonian, similar to modern biodiversity hotspots like the Red Sea.
