A hole in the nematosphere: tardigrades and rotifers dominate the cryoconite hole environment, whereas nematodes are missing

Summary: In cryoconite holes on glaciers, tardigrades and rotifers are common microinvertebrates while nematodes are consistently absent. The distribution of tardigrades and rotifers varies among glaciers but their presence is not predictable. Lack of physiological adaptations to low temperatures and competition for food resources may explain the absence of nematodes in cryoconite holes.
