Barriers and facilitators to prudent antibiotic prescribing for acute respiratory tract infections: A qualitative study with general practitioners in Malta

Erika A. Saliba-Gustafsson et al.

Summary: Through face-to-face semi-structured individual interviews with 20 GPs in Malta, this study revealed the complex factors influencing GPs' antibiotic prescribing decisions, including intrinsic GP factors, interpersonal issues, organizational barriers, and public policy-level challenges. Implementing targeted and coordinated activities at all levels will be necessary to address these barriers and promote appropriate prescribing practices.

The use of continuous electronic prescribing data to infer trends in antimicrobial consumption and estimate the impact of stewardship interventions in hospitalized children

S. Channon-Wells et al.

Summary: Electronic prescribing systems offer significant opportunities to better understand and report antimicrobial consumption in children. This approach to modeling administration data overcomes the limitations of using interval data and dispensary data, providing substantially more detailed inferences on prescribing patterns and the potential impact of stewardship interventions.

Community pharmacists' views on their current role and future opportunities for antibiotic stewardship: a French qualitative study

Anais Essilini et al.

Summary: The study revealed that French community pharmacists have a good understanding of antibiotic stewardship and antibiotic resistance, and are willing to be more involved in ABS activities, although they face difficulties in their relationships with doctors. Their current practices include counseling patients and reporting contraindications/drug interactions to prescribers. In the future, CPs hope to conduct rapid diagnostic testing for sore throat, but there are differing opinions on changing antibiotic prescriptions made by physicians.
