The association of prenatal exposure to benzophenones with gestational age and offspring size at birth

Hakimeh Teiri et al.

Summary: This study examined the association of maternal exposure to benzophenones with gestational age and evaluated their effects on birth outcomes. The results showed that benzophenone derivatives, especially BP-3, can affect the duration of pregnancy and fetal growth, with boys having heavier birth weights than girls. Preterm infants had noticeably lower birth outcomes compared to term infants.

Identification of Benzophenone Analogs in Rice Cereal through Fast Pesticide Extraction and Ultrahigh-Performance Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry

Xuan-Rui Liu et al.

Summary: A fast, robust, and sensitive analytical method was developed for the identification of benzophenone and nine benzophenone analogs in rice cereal. The method exhibited satisfactory linearity, recoveries, and detection limits, and the results showed that the consumption of rice cereal by Taiwanese infants does not pose a health concern.

Simultaneous trace analysis of 10 benzophenone-type ultraviolet filters in fish through liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry*

Yu-Fang Huang et al.

Summary: A trace analytical method was developed and validated for the simultaneous determination of 10 benzophenone (BP)-type ultraviolet filters in commercial fish samples, with BP and 2-OHBP being most commonly detected. The levels of these compounds in fish samples may not pose a health risk to Taiwanese adults through consumption, but further studies are needed to examine potential risks to ecosystems and human health.

Risks of organic UV filters: a review of environmental and human health concern studies

Yanran Huang et al.

Summary: Organic UV filters are compounds that absorb UV radiation with a highly conjugated structure, and their demand has been increasing, making them emerging contaminants. They pose potential threats to both the environment and human health, with characteristics of bioaccumulation and adverse effects.

Summary: A robust and sensitive analytical method was developed for the simultaneous analysis of 10 benzophenone derivatives in breakfast cereal samples, with BP and 4-MBP being the most commonly detected compounds. The study also found significantly higher levels of BP in corn flakes compared to oatmeal, highlighting the importance of further research on the potential health risks posed by these contaminants.
