Amino Acid Solute Carrier Transporters in Inflammation and Autoimmunity

Linlin Sheng et al.

Summary: This review summarizes the role of SLC amino acid transporters in inflammation and autoimmunity. The importance of Glutamate transporters SLC1A1, SLC1A2, and SLC1A3 in central nervous system disorders and the essential role of SLC7A1 and SLC7A2 in T cells and innate immunity are discussed. The link between SLC amino acid transporters and inflammation may provide potential therapeutic targets for related diseases.

Anti-inflammatory activity of the epicuticular wax and its isolated compounds catechin and gallocatechin from Eugenia brasiliensis Lam. (Myrtaceae) leaves

Diogo Alexandre Siebert et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the anti-inflammatory activity of epicuticular wax extracted from leaves of Eugenia brasiliensis Lam., as well as its isolated compounds catechin and gallocatechin in a pleurisy model in mice. The results show that these extracts and compounds are effective in inhibiting inflammatory parameters, with the ECW demonstrating a dose-dependent effect on cell migration inhibition. The study further supports the scientific hypothesis that Eugenia brasiliensis has significant anti-inflammatory activity, possibly due to the presence of catechin and gallocatechin compounds.

Anti-thrombotic and anti-inflammatory activity of sulodexide compared to aspirin in the rat model

Sung-Hwa Sohn et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the anti-thrombotic and anti-inflammatory effects of sulodexide compared to aspirin in a rat model, finding that the sulodexide group had less calcification and inflammatory infiltrates postoperatively. Sulodexide may be considered as a substitute for aspirin in postoperative management of vascular patients.

Roles of ferroptosis in urologic malignancies

Shankun Zhao et al.

Summary: Ferroptosis is strongly associated with the pathogenesis of multiple urologic malignancies. Various biomolecules and tumor-associated signaling pathways are reported to regulate ferroptosis in these cancers. Ferroptosis inducers show potential therapeutic effects in urologic oncology and could enhance the anticancer response of other drugs.

Oxindole-curcumin hybrid compound enhances the transcription of γ-glutamylcysteine ligase

Takanori Ikawa et al.

Summary: The study focuses on developing small organic compounds that increase GCLC transcription to promote neuronal survival by augmenting resistance to oxidative stress. Among the synthesized compounds, GIF-2165X-G1 showed the most effective increase in GCLC mRNA levels through the Sp1 pathway. This compound and its modifications are considered useful interventions for enhancing neuronal survival against oxidative stress.

Acrylamide exposure and pulmonary function reduction in general population: The mediating effect of systemic inflammation

Bin Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between acrylamide exposure and lung function reduction, as well as the potential mediating role of systematic inflammation in this relationship. The findings suggested that exposure to acrylamide in daily life was related to reduced lung function and increased systemic inflammation in the general population, with systemic inflammation further mediating acrylamide-associated lung function reduction, indicating a potential mechanistic role of systemic inflammation underlying pulmonary dysfunction from acrylamide exposure.

Cystine and Methionine Deficiency Promotes Ferroptosis by Inducing B-Cell Translocation Gene 1

Il-Je Cho et al.

Summary: Cystine and methionine deficiency (CST/Met (-)) induces ferroptosis by activating ATF4-dependent BTG1 induction. This process depletes reduced and oxidized glutathione, leading to accumulation of reactive oxygen species and lipid peroxidation, ultimately causing necrotic cell death. Additionally, CST/Met (-) blocks global protein translation, increases expression of genes associated with the integrated stress response, and induces BTG1 expression.
