Cell-based fluorescent microsphere incorporated with carbon dots as a sensitive immunosensor for the rapid detection of Escherichia coli O157 in milk

Yong Zhao et al.

Summary: The study developed a highly sensitive fluorescent immunosensor using CDs-microspheres for the specific detection of Escherichia coli O157:H7 in milk, showing strong fluorescence intensity, good stability, and high uniformity in fluorescence. The immunosensor had a detection limit of 2.4 x 10(2) CFU/mL and could detect spiked E. coli O157:H7 in milk within 30 minutes with good repeatability. Additionally, the method could detect trace amounts of E. coli O157:H7 in real milk samples with 100% accuracy after bacterial enrichment, demonstrating its potential as a rapid and sensitive tool for pathogen detection in milk and other foods.
