Contribution of the offshore detached Changjiang (Yangtze River) Diluted Water to the formation of hypoxia in summer

Qinsheng Wei et al.

Summary: The study shows that the offshore detached Changjiang Diluted Water (CDW) plume in the northeastern area off the Changjiang Estuary contributes to the formation of a local hypoxic center with low pH. The hypoxic area in the bottom waters is associated with surface phytoplankton bloom and organic debris, driven by the offshore low-salinity waters.

Effects of Wave-Current Interactions on Bay-Shelf Exchange

Dehai Song et al.

Summary: Bay-shelf exchange is crucial for coastal systems, as it facilitates self-purification and pollution dilution. This study examines the impacts of wave-current interactions on bay-shelf exchange in Daya Bay, Southern China. Waves enhance seaward transport while tides slow exchange; wind direction and synoptic events like storms affect the exchange. CARWE and WRS are key factors in the exchange process.

Modulation of Shelf Circulations Under Multiple River Discharges in the East China Sea

Ruiming Wu et al.

Summary: This study used a numerical model to investigate the influence of river plumes on the circulation of East Asian Marginal Seas, finding that riverine freshwater discharge can alter density structure and dynamic height of the receiving seas, thus affecting shelf circulation. Both the Changjiang and Pearl Rivers play important roles in regulating the East China Sea shelf circulation, particularly in modifying the coastal current and the Taiwan Warm Current.
