High-efficient production of biofuels using spent fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) catalysts and high acid value waste cooking oils

Le-Phuc Nguyen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the conversion of high acid value waste cooking oils into biofuels using spent fluid catalytic cracking catalysts. The results show that at temperatures above 480 degrees C, WCO with a AV range of 6-22 mgKOH/g can be converted to liquid fuels with near-zero AV. The presence of ZSM-5 in the SFCC catalyst increases propylene and LPG yields, while higher rare earth content limits zeolite destruction and improves catalytic cracking activity.
