The exercise-induced long noncoding RNA CYTOR promotes fast-twitch myogenesis in aging

Martin Wohlwend et al.

Summary: The long noncoding RNA Cytor plays a role in regulating fast-twitch myogenesis during aging, with its expression responding to exercise in both mice and humans. Reduction of Cytor expression in aging muscles is associated with loss of type II fibers, while maintaining Cytor expression in young mice is crucial for proper muscle morphology and function.

Summary: Through lncRNA microarray profiling, we identified a novel long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) associated with exercise-induced cardiac growth, named cardiac physiological hypertrophy-associated regulator (CPhar). Our study reveals the cardioprotective role of CPhar in the heart and expands our understanding of lncRNA function.

Aerobic exercise modulates noncoding RNA network upstream of FNDC5 in the Gastrocnemius muscle of high-fat-diet-induced obese mice

Fatemeh Kazeminasab et al.

Summary: The study found significant effects of aerobic exercise with a fat-rich diet on ncRNAs expression associated with FNDC5 in the Gastrocnemius muscle of obese mice. Bioinformatics analysis identified miR-129-5p, miR-140-5p, and four lncRNAs constructing a network with FNDC5. Changes in the expression levels of these ncRNAs were suggested to be involved in insulin resistance and glucose homeostasis pathways in high-fat diet mice.

Next-generation sequencing of miRNAs and lncRNAs from rat femur and tibia under mechanical stress

Yiyan Qiu et al.

Summary: Exercise intervention is an effective method to prevent and treat osteoporosis, with molecular mechanisms still needing further elucidation. This study found that exercise promoted osteogenic differentiation and inhibited adipogenic differentiation in femur and tibia of animals using a treadmill exercise system. RNA sequencing analyses identified multiple upregulated and downregulated miRNAs and lncRNAs in the exercise group, providing valuable insights for exploring the molecular mechanisms underlying exercise regulation of osteoporosis.

Exercise Improves Endothelial Function via the lncRNA MALAT1/miR-320a Axis in Obese Children and Adolescents

Wei Zhao et al.

Summary: Exercise training can significantly improve endothelial dysfunction in obese children and adolescents by regulating the expression of MALAT1 and miR-320a. These noncoding RNAs are correlated with changes in anthropometric and blood indices, as well as markers of endothelial dysfunction, suggesting their potential role in the protective effects of exercise on endothelial function.

Identification of Nrf2-responsive microRNA networks as putative mediators of myocardial reductive stress

Justin M. Quiles et al.

Summary: This study identifies distinct miRNA signatures associated with Nrf2 overexpression in cardiac tissue, suggesting a potential role of these reductomiRs as mediators of Nrf2-dependent post-transcriptional regulation. The findings highlight the complex network of miRNAs and effector mRNAs encoding pathological hallmarks of cardiac stress-response, supporting Nrf2 as a putative regulator of cardiac miRNA expression and providing novel candidates for further mechanistic investigation into reductive stress and cardiac pathophysiology.

Summary: Epigenetic derepression of Nrf2 plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of osteoporosis, and running exercise can correct this process to improve bone density. Exercise also regulates the expression of other osteogenic factors and improves bone mass and microstructure.
