The role and regulation of Pnn in proliferative and non-dividing cells: Form embryogenesis to pathogenesis

Steve Leu

Summary: Pnn, a multifunctional protein, plays crucial roles in embryonic development, cellular differentiation, tumorigenesis, and metastasis. It not only functions in cell-cell connection but also has important roles in the nucleus. Through genetic manipulation of animal models, the physiological role of Pnn in developmental biology, tumor biology, and neuroscience has been characterized, along with its interactions with transcription regulators, splicing regulators, and cytoskeletal proteins. This protein has been associated with tumorigenesis, metastasis, and even human dementia, showing its diverse roles in different cell types.

The Interplay of RNA Binding Proteins, Oxidative Stress and Mitochondrial Dysfunction in ALS

Jasmine Harley et al.

Summary: RNA binding proteins play key roles in gene expression and their dysregulation has been implicated in the pathomechanisms of various neurodegenerative diseases, including ALS. Oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction also play important roles in these diseases. The review highlights the mechanistic interplay between RNA binding protein dysregulation, oxidative stress, and mitochondrial dysfunction in ALS, and discusses potential therapeutic strategies targeting these pathways.

Systemic Inflammatory Response Index and Futile Recanalization in Patients with Ischemic Stroke Undergoing Endovascular Treatment

Simona Lattanzi et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between systemic inflammatory response index (SIRI) and futile recanalization in patients with AIS. The study found that older age, higher admission National Institutes of Health stroke scale score, and higher admission SIRI increased the risk of poor outcomes at 3 months despite complete or near-complete recanalization.
