Pathogenesis and host responses in lungs and kidneys following Canadian 4/91 infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) infection in chickens

Shahnas M. Najimudeen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the pathogenesis and host response of Canadian 4/91 IBV infection using specific pathogen free (SPF) chickens. The results showed replication of IBV in lung and kidney tissues at different time points, accompanied by significant tissue damage, increased immune cell recruitment, and upregulation of proinflammatory mediators.

Assessing the infiltration of immune cells in the upper trachea mucosa after infectious laryngotracheitis virus (ILTV) vaccination and challenge

Daniel Maekawa et al.

Summary: The study found that the extent of immune cell infiltration in the trachea and the ability to clear the ILTV virus varied depending on the type of vaccination method used. The CEO vaccine showed swift virus clearance and minimal immune cell infiltration, while TCO and rHVT-LT vaccines resulted in slower clearance and increased immune cell infiltration in the trachea.

Evaluation of Recombinant Herpesvirus of Turkey Laryngotracheitis (rHVT-LT) Vaccine against Genotype VI Canadian Wild-Type Infectious Laryngotracheitis Virus (ILTV) Infection

Catalina Barboza-Solis et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the efficacy of a recombinant herpesvirus of turkey (rHVT-LT) vaccine against a genotype VI Canadian wild-type ILTV infection and found that the vaccine had limited effectiveness in reducing clinical symptoms but significantly reduced ILTV shedding. Overall, rHVT-LT provided partial protection against genotype VI ILTV infection.

Pathogenic and Transmission Potential of Wildtype and Chicken Embryo Origin (CEO) Vaccine Revertant Infectious Laryngotracheitis Virus

Ana Perez-Contreras et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the pathogenicity and transmission potential of a Canadian-origin CEO vaccine revertant ILTV, showing that this revertant virus induced severe disease and successfully transmitted to naive contact-exposed chickens, indicating higher virulence and dissemination potential compared to the wildtype ILTV isolates used in the study.

Summary: The study demonstrated that the IBV/Ck/Can/17-038913 isolate did not affect egg production in laying hens, but showed tissue tropism towards various organs, including the kidneys.

Histopathologic Lesion Scoring and Histomorphometric Methods for Measuring Vaccine Reactions in the Trachea of Broiler Chickens

Floyd D. Wilson et al.

Summary: The severity of tracheal histologic inflammatory response induced in broilers by ocular inoculation of two infectious bronchitis (IBV) and three Newcastle disease virus (NDV) commercial vaccines was evaluated. Different vaccines showed variable inflammatory responses, with the IBV-A vaccine producing the greatest overall inflammatory response. The study also revealed that substantial microscopic trachea pathology may be present in vaccinated birds not exhibiting apparent clinical respiratory signs.

Analysis of chicken macrophage functions and gene expressions following infectious bronchitis virus M41 infection

Xiaoqi Sun et al.

Summary: Infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) infection affects the viability and functions of chicken macrophages, but they still play an important role in host immune response against the virus. IBV-induced changes in gene expressions in macrophages are closely related to virus replication.
