MiR-223-3p targets FOXO3a to inhibit radiosensitivity in prostate cancer by activating glycolysis

Keqin Zhou et al.

Summary: The study found that miR-223-3p is significantly upregulated in clinically collected urine samples and PCa cells with low radiosensitivity. Enhancing miR-223-3p further reduces radiosensitivity, while inhibiting miR-223-3p improves radiosensitivity of PC3 and LNCaP cells. miR-223-3p regulates radiosensitivity by enhancing cell glycolysis.

miRNA-218-5p increases cell sensitivity by inhibiting PRKDC activity in radiation-resistant lung carcinoma cells

Xiaoke Chen et al.

Summary: The study identified miRNA-218-5p as downregulated in NSCLC, and found that exosomes containing miRNA-218-5p could inhibit proliferation and induce apoptosis in radiation-resistant lung cancer cells. Overexpression of miRNA-218-5p and X-irradiation were shown to enhance radiosensitivity in LC cells.

Serum MicroRNAs as Xerostomia Biomarkers in Patients With Oropharyngeal Cancer Undergoing Radiation Therapy

Bartlomiej Tomasik et al.

Summary: This study aimed to create an efficient prognostic miRNA-based test for severe xerostomia in oropharyngeal cancer patients after primary treatment. The results showed that miR-425-5p and miR-185-5p levels in serum before radiation therapy or during therapy (after 20 Gy) had significant predictive value for severe xerostomia occurrence 3 months after treatment completion. The variability explained by miRNAs appears to be independent from dosimetric data.

Associations between lipids in selected brain regions, plasma miRNA, and behavioral and cognitive measures following 28Si ion irradiation

Jessica Minnier et al.

Summary: The study found that irradiation with Si-28 ions can impact brain function in mice, affecting behavioral and cognitive performance. Results indicate associations between different lipids, plasma miRNA, and cognitive and behavioral measures following the irradiation, which could be used for developing biomarkers of space radiation response.

Summary: The study compared the differences in miRNA concentration and expression levels between serum and plasma as starting media, and found that the performance of both was equivalent when using RT-qPCR. Therefore, both blood-derived starting media are equally suitable for biomarker discovery studies involving healthy pregnant women.
