Octahedral Symmetry Modification Induced Orbital Occupancy Variation in VO2

Dooyong Lee et al.

Summary: The study found that octahedral symmetry in VO2 can control its IMT characteristics by changing orbital occupancy, and monoclinic VO2 with high octahedral symmetry exhibits bandwidth-controlled IMT characteristics.

Hole Dopants Disentangling Peierls-Mott Relevance States of VO2 by First-Principles Calculation

Chen Ling et al.

Summary: Hole doping changes the electronic structure of VO2, leading to the dedimerization of the Mott-Peierls related states and the formation of M-2-VO2. This finding provides important insights for the development of Mott transition field-effect transistors.

On the wrong assignment of the XPS O1s signal at 531-532 eV attributed to oxygen vacancies in photo- and electro-catalysts for water splitting and other materials applications

Hicham Idriss

Summary: The XPS O1s signal mistakenly attributed to oxygen vacancies is actually due to the adsorption of water molecules on the oxide surface under ambient conditions. Surface oxygen vacancies in binary or mixed metal oxide materials or catalysts will be oxidized instantly due to the strong adsorption energy of water, making it impossible for ex-situ measurements.

Correlation between Symmetry and Phase Transition Temperature of VO2 Films Deposited on Al2O3 Substrates with Various Orientations

Yesul Choi et al.

Summary: The IMT temperature of VO2 is influenced by the octahedral symmetry variation of VO6, with films deposited on substrates with higher symmetry showing lower IMT temperatures. The temperature-dependent Raman spectra indicate that the structural phase transition temperature decreases in the order of films deposited on different Al2O3 orientations, suggesting that symmetrical structures reduce the activation energy for IMT. Thus, structural symmetry plays a crucial role in lowering the transition temperature of VO2.

Phase management in single-crystalline vanadium dioxide beams

Run Shi et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the selective stabilization of all insulating phases in single-crystalline VO2 beams at room temperature through oxide inhibitor-assisted stoichiometry engineering. The precise spatial control of phase configurations introduces a new concept of phase transition route devices. By combining different phase transition routes, high-performance VO2 actuators with improved performance and functional diversity are achieved.
