Progress of gelatin-based microspheres (GMSs) as delivery vehicles of drug and cell

Zuoxiang Dong et al.

Summary: Gelatin-based microspheres (GMSs) have attractive features such as biocompatibility, biodegradability, and ease of manipulation. In recent years, they have been used as sustained delivery vehicles of drugs, cell carriers, and 3D scaffold components in tissue engineering, showing promising potentials.

PLGA hybrid porous microspheres as human periodontal ligament stem cell delivery carriers for periodontal regeneration

Yaoshan Liu et al.

Summary: This study focused on the potential of polymer porous microspheres (PMs) as stem cells delivery carriers for periodontal regeneration. The synthesized PLGA PMs, along with SF and/or HA modifications, were used to seed hPDLSCs with specific techniques. In vitro evaluations showed promising results for cell viability, migration, proliferation, and osteogenic differentiation. In vivo experiments demonstrated the superior tissue repairing efficacy of the HA-SF-PLGA group due to SF-dependent adhesion and HA-dependent osteogenesis.
