New Insight into the Characterization of Graphene Oxide and Reduced Graphene Oxide Monolayer Flakes on Si-Based Substrates by Optical Microscopy and Raman Spectroscopy

K. Kanishka H. De Silva et al.

Summary: A new insight into the characterization of GO and thermally reduced GO monolayer flakes deposited on different commonly used Si-based substrates by Raman spectroscopy along with optical visualization has been reported. The study found that dielectric substrates with lower reflectance in the visible range provide better optical contrast and generate intense Raman signals under normal white light illumination. Additionally, a Si substrate with a 90 nm SiO2 layer was shown to offer the highest I-G'/I-G ratio and better optical visibility for monolayer RGO flakes.

α-Amino Acids and α,β-Dipeptides Intercalated into Hydrotalcite: Efficient Catalysts in the Asymmetric Michael Addition Reaction of Aldehydes to N-Substituted Maleimides

Jose M. Landeros et al.

Summary: Organic-inorganic hybrid materials were prepared by intercalating amino acids and dipeptides into hydrotalcite through high speed ball milling and rehydration/reconstruction methods. The hybrid catalysts showed higher catalytic activities in the Michael addition reaction compared to pristine hydrotalcite-derived materials, providing high yields and enantioselectivity under neat reaction conditions.
