Bio-based multifunctional carbon aerogels from sugarcane residue for organic solvents adsorption and solar-thermal-driven oil removal

Zhaoxin Li et al.

Summary: This study presents a highly efficient oil-absorbing material, carbon aerogels, prepared from sugarcane-based precursor without chemical modification. The carbon aerogels exhibit excellent hydrophobicity, oleophilicity, fire resistance, and reusability, making them a promising solution for oil and organic solvents leakage. Additionally, the aerogels show significant adsorption capacity for high viscosity oil and can be used for emulsion separation, with the added benefit of photo-thermal conversion capability.

Scalable production of hydrophobic and photo-thermal conversion bio-based 3D scaffold: Towards oil-water separation and continuous oil collection

Zhaoxin Li et al.

Summary: A cost-effective production approach is essential for oil-water separation materials, as many advanced materials are costly and sophisticated. By utilizing the natural skeleton structure of sugarcane residue, a bio-based 3D scaffold with hydrophobicity and photo-thermal conversion capability was successfully prepared. This scaffold can effectively absorb oils and organic solvents, making it a promising treatment method for oily wastewater.

Barrier function of graphene for suppressing the smoke toxicity of polymer/black phosphorous nanocomposites with mechanism change

Wei Cai et al.

Summary: The use of melamine-mediated graphene/black phosphorous nanohybrids effectively suppresses the heat and smoke release behavior of polymer/BP nanocomposites, reducing the combustion performance of TPU composites significantly. Introducing such nanostructured hybrid materials can greatly improve the fire safety of polymer composites.
