Soil microbial biomass and extracellular enzymes regulate nitrogen mineralization in a wheat-maize cropping system after three decades of fertilization in a Chinese Ferrosol

Sehrish Ali et al.

Summary: Long-term manure addition in a wheat-maize cropping system was found to increase soil organic carbon, available phosphorus, total phosphorus, and total nitrogen. Soil microbial biomass nitrogen and carbon levels were highest in the treatment combining organic and inorganic fertilizers. Additionally, N-cycling and P-cycling enzyme activities showed significant differences among treatments, with the highest activities observed under the combined fertilizer treatment.
