Organic vs conventional plant-based foods: A review

Francesca Giampieri et al.

Summary: Organic farming prohibits the use of chemical synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, etc., and applies sustainable agricultural technologies. While consumers believe that organic products are more nutritious and safer, there is controversy in academic circles. This study aims to summarize the impact of organic foods and the differences with conventional foods.

Quality Parameters of Spanish Lemons with Commercial Interest

Marlene G. Aguilar-Hernandez et al.

Summary: This study investigated the morphological and chemical variations of lemons in five variety/rootstock combinations to determine the influence of the rootstock on the physicochemical properties of the fruits. The results showed that the lemons with the best physicochemical and compositional characteristics were obtained when the Fino 95 and Fino 49 varieties were grafted onto C. aurantium rootstock.

Enhancing antioxidant systems by preharvest treatments with methyl jasmonate and salicylic acid leads to maintain lemon quality during cold storage

Vicente Serna-Escolano et al.

Summary: Preharvest treatments with MeJA and SA improved the antioxidant activity, phenolic content, and enzyme activity in lemon fruit at harvest. Treated fruit also showed lower weight and firmness losses, respiration rate, and production of ethylene compared to controls. Additionally, sugars and organic acids were maintained at higher concentrations in treated fruit, indicating an effect on maintaining fruit quality properties.
