Assessment of the relationship of serum liver enzymes activity with general and abdominal obesity in an urban Bangladeshi population

Nurshad Ali et al.

Summary: The study found a high prevalence of elevated liver enzymes among Bangladeshi adults, particularly related to general and abdominal obesity. The mean levels and prevalence of some serum enzymes were significantly higher in the obesity group compared to the normal group. Serum GGT was independently associated with both types of obesity, indicating a need for further research on the complex relationship between liver enzymes and obesity in the general population.

Leptin and Obesity: Role and Clinical Implication

Milan Obradovic et al.

Summary: Leptin, a peptide hormone, regulates food intake, body mass, and reproductive function, playing a crucial role in fetal growth, immune responses, angiogenesis, and lipolysis. Leptin resistance can lead to reduced satiety, overconsumption of nutrients, and increased body mass, potentially causing obesity. Combining leptin therapies with sensitizers may help overcome resistance and treat obesity effectively.

Histological and biomechanical properties of systemic arteries in young and old Warmblood horses

Lisse Vera et al.

Summary: The study found that older horses have significantly larger intima media thickness and a higher area % of smooth muscle actin compared to young horses, and arterial rupture occurs more frequently in older horses at high pressures. Significant differences in the histological and biomechanical properties of the arterial wall were observed between young and old horses.
