Growth Performance and Transcriptomic Response of Warm-Acclimated Hybrid AbaloneHaliotis rufescens(♀) xH. corrugata(♂)

M. A. Tripp-Valdez et al.

Summary: Abalone farming along the Pacific coast of the Baja California Peninsula in Mexico is primarily based on red abalone, but increasing frequency of extreme temperature events is impacting this activity. Interspecific hybridization, such as between red and pink abalone, may improve abalone culture by increasing thermal tolerance and growth rates. Hybrid progeny showed better performance in terms of growth and survival at higher temperatures compared to pure red abalone, which was supported by findings in transcriptional profiling.

Transcriptome differential expression analysis reveals the activated genes in Litopenaeus vannamei shrimp families of superior growth performance

Camilla A. Santos et al.

Summary: This study used RNA-seq data to analyze gene expression patterns related to growth performance and weight gain in Litopenaeus vannamei shrimp. The results show that certain genes are up-regulated in higher growth families, potentially involved in weight gain and immune response.

Vigour-related traits and immunity in hybrids of evolutionary divergent cyprinoid species: advantages of hybrid heterosis?

Andrea Simkova et al.

Summary: The study examines the potential physiological and immune aspects of hybrid vigor by comparing different species and their F1 hybrids caught in nature. Significant differences were found in vigor-related, physiological, and immune parameters between the divergent species. Hybrids generally exhibit intermediate traits, but may show similarities to one parental species for certain characteristics, indicating a heterozygote advantage for F1 hybrids.

Milk, Fertility and Udder Health Performance of Purebred Holstein and Three-Breed Rotational Crossbred Cows within French Farms: Insights on the Benefits of Functional Diversity

Julien Quenon et al.

Summary: This study compared the performance of purebred Holstein (HO), first- and second-generation crosses (F-1 and G(2)) in terms of milk production, reproduction, and udder health. It found that combining HO with F-1 or both F-1 and G(2) (below 30%) could be more profitable than using purebred HO or fully crossbred herds in a conventional milk price scenario. The study highlights the benefits of functional diversity generated from the use of dairy crossbreeding in dairy herds.

Glyphosate Herbicide Induces Changes in the Growth Pattern and Somatic Indices of Crossbred Red Tilapia (O. niloticus x O. mossambicus)

Umar Abubakar Muhammad et al.

Summary: The study found that the bodyweight index is the most sensitive parameter to the toxicity of technical grade glyphosate, with a reduction in body weight observed at 25 mg/L concentration, and negative correlations between glyphosate concentration and parameters like SGR, HIS, and GSI. The fish condition factor and feed conversion ratio were not affected at the highest concentration of 150 mg/L tested.

Integrated Analysis of mRNA and miRNA Changes in Two Haliotis diversicolor Genotypes and Their Hybrid

Shuang Liang et al.

Summary: The phenomenon of heterosis is widely present in mollusks and is essential in aquaculture for combining beneficial traits into hybrids. The molecular basis of heterosis in abalone hybrids remains unclear, with dominant and overdominance models identified in the transcriptome and post-transcriptional regulation. Functional analysis revealed enriched pathways related to growth, immunity, and stress response, influenced by mRNA-miRNA interactions. The integration of advantageous parental alleles contributes to the growth and survival heterosis in hybrids.
