Identification of Biomarker Volatile Organic Compounds Released by Three Stored-Grain Insect Pests in Wheat

Lijun Cai et al.

Summary: Monitoring and early detection of stored-grain insect infestation is crucial for effective pest management. This study presents a reliable method using headspace solid-phase microextraction coupled with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry to assess insect infestation in stored grains. Specific volatile compounds emitted by the infested grains were identified and can be utilized for insect surveillance and monitoring in stored grain.

The effect of 1-pentadecene on Tribolium castaneum behaviour: Repellent or attractant?

Nikola Dukic et al.

Summary: The movement of the red flour beetle in stored products is mediated by food volatiles and other semiochemicals. The presence of 1-pentadecene showed an attractive effect on the beetles at low concentrations, but repelled them at higher concentrations.

Fatty Acids Present in Wheat Kernels Influence the Development of the Grain Weevil (Sitophilus granarius L.)

Mariusz Nietupski et al.

Summary: The content of fatty acids in wheat cultivars is correlated with the development of S. granarius, with certain fatty acids stimulating pest offspring while others reducing their numbers. The identification of these fatty acids can contribute to the development of new pest-tolerant cereal cultivars.
