Advanced reduction process to achieve efficient degradation of pyridine

Shuhao Liu et al.

Summary: The combination of UV irradiation and sulfite was found to be more effective in removing pyridine compared to using UV alone or UV/H2O2. The removal rate was highest in slightly alkaline environment and showed potential for practical applications. Increasing sulfite dosage had a positive impact on pyridine removal, but was gradually inhibited when dosage exceeded 5 mM. This study may provide an alternative efficient technology for degrading pyridine ring-containing substances.

Pre-electrochemical treatment combined with fixed bed biofilm reactor for pyridine wastewater treatment: From performance to microbial community analysis

Zimo Lou et al.

Summary: A method combining pre-electrochemical treatment with fixed bed biofilm reactor was designed to effectively degrade multi-component pyridine wastewater, achieving high mineralization efficiency especially for the persistent 3-chloropyridine. During the treatment process, interspecies competition between Rhodococcus and Paracoccus in the biofilm occurred, with Paracoccus eventually becoming the dominant genus to complete the degradation of all pollutants.

Synergy of strains that accelerate biodegradation of pyridine and quinoline

Ge Zhu et al.

Summary: Three bacterial strains were isolated from activated sludge adapted to degrade pyridine and quinoline simultaneously, with Rhodococcus ruber demonstrating the fastest kinetics. Combining R. ruber with one or both of the Bacillus strains further increased the biodegradation kinetics. The three strains together significantly reduced the time needed for complete biodegradation compared to using R. ruber alone.
